Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Honed (“Honed,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the Honed interview-preparation app and the public website at honedinterview.com.
1. Privacy approach
Honed is designed around private preparation rather than advertising. We do not sell personal information, do not include a third-party advertising SDK, and do not use your interview content to build advertising profiles. The current public website does not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
2. Information Honed can handle
Account information
Honed uses Sign in with Apple. Apple provides a stable account identifier used to associate your preparation with your account and may provide your name or an Apple relay email address on first sign-in, depending on your choices.
Preparation and career information
Depending on the features you use, Honed can store your profile, target roles, seniority, industry, questions, written answers, guided notes, answer versions, confidence ratings, job applications, job descriptions, interview dates, resumes or extracted resume text, job-search outcome logs, optional employer feedback, practice-focus settings, and saved coaching.
Recordings and transcripts
Mock and panel practice can create audio/video recordings, question chapters, transcripts, and question-specific coaching results. A recording existing on the device is not treated as proof that a spoken answer was present; current coaching can classify no recording, no speech, insufficient content, and technical analysis failure separately from an assessable answer.
Local diagnostics
Honed can keep local diagnostic events containing fixed event names, success/failure states, dates, and durations. These diagnostics are designed not to contain prompts, transcripts, recordings, resumes, names, emails, or account identifiers, and they stay on the device unless you choose to export them.
3. AI processing
AI text processing requires a first-use choice. Video/audio coaching has a separate choice. When you invoke an AI feature, Honed sends only the content relevant to that feature through its server-side proxy to the provider configured for that request. Depending on production configuration, providers can include Google, OpenAI, or Anthropic.

AI output can be incomplete or wrong. The current coaching pipeline validates required evidence and does not intentionally turn missing evidence into a default score, but automated analysis remains probabilistic and should be reviewed alongside the recording/transcript.
Our server validates access and forwards requests. Shared rate limits can use hashed subscription and network-address keys with expiry. Request content is not intentionally written to the proxy’s application logs, although hosting and provider infrastructure can process operational information under their own terms and retention practices.
4. Speech recognition
Honed uses Apple speech frameworks for transcript-only coaching and related transcription. On-device recognition is preferred where supported; otherwise Apple’s speech service may process audio after the relevant system permission prompt. You can select the spoken language in Honed Settings and manage system permissions in iOS Settings.
5. iCloud and cross-device synchronization
When iCloud sync is enabled, supported preparation metadata and recordings are copied to your private iCloud container so they can be available across compatible Apple devices. Recording transfers can continue after metadata has synchronized and can use both iCloud storage and temporary local device storage.
Resume source files and local diagnostic events are kept on the device in the current build. Honed uses entity-deletion records and an account-deletion epoch to reduce the risk that a stale or offline device restores deleted app data when it reconnects. Deleting the app alone does not necessarily delete iCloud copies.
6. Subscriptions, StoreKit, and regional pricing
Purchases are processed by Apple. Honed receives subscription entitlement and StoreKit product information, not your full payment-card number. Subscription products, prices, currency, taxes, and introductory-offer eligibility are determined by your App Store storefront and App Store Connect configuration.
The current app refreshes StoreKit product metadata when paywalls open or the app returns to the foreground, checks product currency against the current storefront before showing an exact amount, and reloads the selected product before checkout. If regional metadata is conflicting or cannot be safely verified, Honed can hide the suspect amount and ask you to review Apple’s purchase sheet, which is authoritative before you confirm the transaction.
7. Public website data and hero experiment
The public website does not require an account. Standard hosting logs may include IP address, request time, browser/device information, and requested URL for security and reliability. The homepage currently uses a first-party browser localStorage value to keep a visitor assigned to one of two hero illustrations for a simple visual A/B test. That value contains only the selected variant and is not used to infer sensitive characteristics. No third-party analytics is currently required for this assignment.
If we later add analytics, cookies beyond strictly local preferences, a signed-in web portal, cloud database storage, public sharing, or collaboration, we will update this policy before enabling those uses.
8. Retention
Local and iCloud-synchronized content remains until you delete it, delete your account/content through available controls, or Apple/device storage behavior removes it. Saved AI coaching and transcripts remain with the corresponding app data until deleted. AI and infrastructure providers can retain operational or request data according to the terms and account settings applicable to those services.
9. Your choices
- Review recordings without requesting AI analysis.
- Turn AI text or video/audio processing off in Settings to stop future AI requests; a request already sent may finish processing.
- Use transcript-only coaching where available if you prefer not to send video/audio media to the AI provider.
- Delete individual answers, sessions, recordings, outcomes, or other supported content.
- Delete your Honed account data through the in-app controls. Deleting Honed data does not cancel your App Store subscription.
- Manage iCloud availability through Honed and Apple settings.
- Manage or cancel subscriptions through Apple.
- Contact us to exercise privacy rights available under applicable law.
10. Security and international processing
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the service, including Apple platform protections, authenticated server access, bounded request handling, and provider API controls. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed absolutely secure. Apple, hosting providers, and AI providers may process information in countries other than your own and use their applicable transfer mechanisms where required.
11. Children
Honed is designed for job seekers and professional interview preparation, not for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in a manner prohibited by applicable law.
12. Changes
We may update this policy as Honed evolves. We will update the Effective Date and may provide additional in-app notice for material changes.
